THE CHICAGO COTTAGE ORGAN
STYLE 32
CIRCA, 1896

This lovely Chicago Cottage Organ was built by the original Chicago Cottage Organ Company in 1896. The cabinet is a Style 32, and the action is a twelve stop, orchestral reed action with couplers and sub-base. This organ came to us from a barn in Maryland, where it spent many years in dampness and was home to various creatures of the rodent world.

Very slow drying was the key to restoration of this beautiful piece. The organ spent many weeks in our kiln room, until the moisture content of the wood was stable enough for restoration to begin. The results are even
more spectacular than these photos can show, and the organ was returned to the owners home in Virginia.

As you can see, the wood refinished almost like the day it was made. The keys were restored, every screw is polished and treated solid brass, we restored the nickel plating on the pedal plates, resilvered the mirror, restored the stop faces, and the antique crushed red velvet is nearly identical to the original pattern and color. All in all, the past has come alive again.
